Update!

Since our last blog post, things around here have been hopping!!

After clearing the land to plot out a place for the house, we ran into some problems as we started to dig. Sam hit rock not far under the surface which made it impossible for us to go further with our current house plans. Mom and Sam worked hard together to revise our plans and change the house to fit the rock. This done, Sam started digging out for the footers for our half basement.  We rushed hours before the inspector was about to come to make it all presentable so we could pour the cement. Shovel’s in hand and eyes wide open for loose tree roots we searched to make everything right!

It passed inspection and the cement truck arrived less than an hour later. Cement poured, and set – one long day’s work complete! After the footers were done Sam hired some workers to start laying cinderblocks which, after they had set, we also filled with cement. After the cinderblock wall was completed, the workers started to build a brick wall around the blocks on the sides and back of the house.

We helped by sure walling the back of the house, then tarring the sure wall, stomping ground up rocks into the basement, making food, and doing other projects around the farm.

It’s hard to sum up what we have been doing since, though our main project is the house, we are also repairing an old barn to make it more sound, excavating near the pond, and keeping the farm going.

This past week we had our pigs processed! They had grown quite large and we are looking forward to getting the meat back! Their hanging weights were 200, 205, and 215 pounds – so we will be have plenty of pork to eat and to sell!

We poured cement in the basement last week and start with framing this week!

Here are some pictures to catch you up to speed.

Our Aunt Teri and our cousins Bryce and Josh came for a visit.
